Queen Letizia of Spain looked somber today as she attended a memorial service for victims of terrorism with her husband King Felipe.

The royal, 51, looked sophisticated in a long-sleeved navy dress at a memorial event honoring the nearly 200 victims of the 2004 Madrid train attack.

The mother-of-two teamed her chic ensemble with matching kitten heels and a leather handbag as she arrived at the Royal Collection Gallery.

In Spain it has been twenty years since the attack, which killed almost 200 people, was claimed by ‘Al Qaeda in Europe’ as punishment for Spain’s involvement in the war in Iraq.

During the morning rush hour of March 11, 2004, ten bombs exploded almost simultaneously on Madrid’s commuter trains, killing 192 people and injuring nearly 2,000.

Last week, Queen Letizia looked picture-perfect as she attended the opening of the International Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid with King Felipe VI.

Wearing a statement cream top under a classic black coat, the royal once again showed her sharp sense of style.

Letizia’s fine-knit top featured a contemporary interwoven design reminiscent of Italian designer Bottega Veneta’s famous ‘intrecciato’ – or braided – handbags.

Her single-breasted coat fell below the knee and was worn open for a relaxed look.

The mother-of-two looked petite in black slim-leg trousers, while her patent leather slingbacks proved she has her finger on the pulse when it comes to fashion.

The royal couple attended the opening of the 43rd edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid – known as ARCOmadrid2024 – which runs until March 10.

The Spanish royal family has been rocked in recent months following sensational claims by Letizia’s former brother-in-law that they had an affair before and after her marriage to King Felipe in 2004.

Her appearance alongside her husband came after Jaime Peñafiel, 91, who made a series of bombshell accusations about Queen Letizia in the book “Letizia & I,” was fired by the newspaper where he had worked for 20 years.

Late last year, the veteran journalist sent shockwaves through Spain’s royal family after claiming the Queen was romantically involved with her ex-brother-in-law.

The book relied heavily on allegations made by Jaime Del Burgo, 53, who sensationally claimed he was still in a relationship with Letizia after her marriage to King Felipe in 2004.

The businessman told the author that he met Letizia before 2000 and that their relationship began during a romantic trip to Venice, years before she met King Felipe.

The journalist spoke to Argentinian publication Semana and confirmed that he was no longer employed by El Mundo.

During the interview, he denied that the decision to leave El Mundo was made months ago. Initial reports in Spanish media claimed that Jaime Peñafiel was fired due to 2024 budget constraints.

However, the author claimed that the decision to fire him was made the day he complained about a “highly offensive” article printed about him.
