RICHARD KAY talks about King Charles’ relationship with Harry

King Charles and Prince Harry’s relationship is “infinitely worse” than it was before he took the throne, says Richard Kay.

Speaking on the latest episode of Palace Confidential, the Daily Mail’s editor-in-chief said the King is taking a leaf out of his mother’s book by keeping quiet about family disagreements.

Speaking to Jo Elvin, he said: “In recent months Harry has been busy with his brother William and sister-in-law Kate, but also with Camilla and that is a no go for Charles.”

The editor said Charles would have been “deeply upset that his beloved son could attack his beloved wife.”

The prince spoke of his mother-in-law in Spare, and described Camilla as “dangerous” and a “scoundrel” who left “bodies in the street” in her desire to change the public’s perception of her.

Harry also wrote: “I have complex feelings about getting a stepparent who I thought recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”

Kay said: ‘(Charles) seems to be adopting the Queen’s strategy of doing nothing – and letting time be the healer.

“I think he’s convinced that things sort themselves out over time.

“He’s going to be very reluctant to force an issue, he’s going to be reluctant to take their titles away.

“I’m afraid what this means, in the short term, they’ll be more bad news for him later.”

Harry attended Charles and Camilla’s coronation ceremony last month — which fell on Archie’s birthday — but flew back to Los Angeles as soon as it ended.

Elsewhere in the episode, the pair discussed the “near catastrophic” car crash in New York a few weeks ago.

Elvin said, ‘It’s interesting isn’t it that, even after all these years, Diana’s name still sometimes casts a long shadow.

“And it was recently mentioned in the coverage of Harry and Megan’s so-called near catastrophic pursuit by paparazzi.”

Kay then said, “I think a lot of people would have had their hearts in their mouths when that statement came out from New York and the talk of a near catastrophic car chase, because it immediately takes us back to 1997, and the tragedy of Diana’s dead.

“No one, no one wants that. The paparazzi don’t want it and the Royal certainly don’t – none of us want it.

And there really has to be some meaningful way for the couple — I’m talking about Harry and Megan — to live their lives without causing the sort of frenzy that seemed to be rampant in New York at times last week.

As precise as the details are, we’re still not entirely sure. There’s definitely one of those ‘recollections may vary’ issues around some facts.”

Kay also discussed the differences between the Welsh and King Charles in terms of royal duties – with the Welsh being ‘focused on parenting’.

“Charles was never like that, he always put royal affairs first, just like the Queen,” says Kay.

And there were some costs associated with that. Much hope and expectation rests on the shoulders of William and Kate.

‘They are undoubtedly the future, as are their children, and the best and most well-rounded education they have must be good for the long-term good of the monarchy.

“But that puts pressure on the others, because if William and Kate can’t handle the extra work that’s needed, who will?”

The pair also discussed the Duke of Edinburgh title – which Kay says it is believed will pass to Charlotte after that.
