“Next week, Lifetime will air their first Christmas movie with a sex scene,” Michael Che said during the variety show’s Weekend Update skit on Saturday, December 2. ‘The sex scene will finally explain why Santa Claus named that one reindeer Vixen. That’s a weird name for a reindeer, man.’
Writer (en Grey’s anatomy alum) Sarah Drew and leading actress Jan Kramer weighed on having their film, A cowboy Christmas novelfeatured in the show.
“My new movie was made by SNL,” Kramer, 40, wrote via Instagram Story on Sunday, December 3, alongside a clip from the show.
Drew, 43, took to her own Instagram Story on Sunday and wrote: “Well @nbcsnl made a joke about my movie #acowboychristmasromance. Does this mean I made it?!”
The official Lifetime Instagram account also shared a video of the skit and captioned it after“Lifetime has officially made the naughty list.”
A cowboy Christmas novel follows real estate agent Lexie (Kramer) as she returns to her hometown in Arizona to reclaim land from rancher Coby Mason (Adam Sen). As the two begin to bond, Lexie begins to question her own life choices and tries to repair her relationships with family members.
‘It’s the first [Lifetime] Christmas movie with a sex scene,” Kramer revealed on a November episode of her “Whine Down” podcast. “When I read it, I thought, ‘Well, this is going to be interesting.’ I’m like, ‘How are we going to do this with the baby bump?’
The One Tree Hill alum, who recently welcomed son Roman with fiancé Allan Russell, continued: “We’re doing this – spoiler alert – he puts me on some hay, and then, you know… And then, you know, obviously it’s still Lifetime, it’s still family. But it also pushed boundaries there.”
The day after the shooting, Kramer said she made fun of the scene and her pregnancy to 39-year-old costar Senn. “I thought, ‘We made a baby!’” she joked.
Kramer also shared that Lifetime “didn’t take anything away,” adding that she was “so happy that they really left it all in.”
For her part, Drew talked about why she wanted to shoot the scene during the podcast episode.
“It all came out so beautifully, but especially the scene in the kitchen. I had written in the stage directions, “He’s pulling her onto the counter, he’s pushing things off the table,” she said. “I put it all in, so I thought, ‘Don’t take the steam and the sex away from me. I wrote it on purpose, I want it in there.’”
A cowboy Christmas novel premieres on Lifetime Saturday, December 9 at 8pm ET.
