The Crown has reimagined a heartbreaking scene in which Mohamed Al-Fayed kisses the dead body of his beloved son Dodi Al-Fayed, following the fatal 1997 Paris car crash involving Princess Diana.

The scene takes place at the beginning of episode four of the sixth and final season of Netflix’s royal drama, which landed on the streaming service this morning, as Mohamed (Salim Daw) stands over the corpse of his son Dodi (Khalid Abdalla).

Mohamed kisses Dodi’s forehead before bursting into tears.

Director Christian Schwochow previously insisted that the series would not show Diana’s corpse, despite also including scenes of her in the morgue with Prince Charles, played by Dominic West.

“We filmed Diana, but very respectfully – not in a big close-up,” he said Deadline. ‘It was very clear to us that we did not want to see her dead body. I actually don’t think it was a discussion. Even in the first version of the cut we would never see her body,

In a poignant scene, Netflix has recreated the moment Mohamed Al-Fayed (Salim Daw) sees the body of his late son Dodi (Khalid Abdalla) in the latest series of The Crown

Diana and Dodi Fayed died in the early hours of August 31, 1997, after the S-Class they were traveling in crashed into the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris.

Following the aftermath of the tragic crash, Netflix relives the moment Mohamed sees his son lying dead for the first time.

Mohamed reveals the white cloth covering his son’s body before bursting into tears and kissing Dodi’s forehead.

While the scene is undoubtedly harrowing, Dodi’s body remains unmarked, without a bruise or cut in sight.

As the doctors watch, Mohamed crumbles at the sight before him and shouts out an Arabic phrase.

The series also depicts Diana and Dodi’s fatal car crash in Paris in 1997 – to the point where their car entered the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.

The scene takes place at the end of episode three, when Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Dodi get into a car outside the Ritz Hotel in Paris to return to the Egyptian film producer’s apartment.

The car then accelerates through the streets of the French capital before entering the tunnel at high speed.

Speaking in a hallway prior to their fateful final trip, Dodi asks Henri Paul, the Ritz’s deputy head of security, if the couple is safe to travel. In French, Henri explains that two staffers have brought a decoy vehicle with them so that the coast is clear for Diana and Dodi.

“No one will see us leave, believe me,” he tells Dodi.

But as the couple walk to the Mercedes-Benz W140, they are flanked by paparazzi.

Ominous music then plays as the driver asks Diana if everything is okay, before Dodi tells Henri – who is driving the vehicle – ‘allez’.

After the couple gets into the car, very few words are spoken, but Diana and Dodi hold each other and squeeze each other’s hands.

The car begins to drive through the streets and passes a pedestrian walking his dog – who seems a little surprised at the speed of the vehicle.

Netflix has always insisted that viewers will not see the Pont de l’Alma tunnel crash that killed Dodi and Henri Paul and lost Diana’s life a few hours later. However, the crash can already be heard at the end of episode three.

The series even goes so far as to show the car entering the Pont de l’Alma tunnel as it speeds past the dog walker, in a clip that may shock some viewers.

The final series also shows the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death as the royal family hears the news while in Balmoral.

In a moving scene, an aide breaks the news to the Queen (Imelda Staunton), Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce) and Prince Charles (Dominic West), who are huddled around the television watching coverage of the crash.

No words are heard as the assistant delivers the news, but Charles, visibly devastated, breaks down in tears on the couch.

Speaking in a hallway prior to their fateful final trip, Dodi asks Henri Paul, the Ritz’s deputy head of security, if the couple is safe to travel.

Although the queen is stoic, one can hold back tears with a solemn look on her face.

Elsewhere in the opening episodes of the final season, Princess Diana is depicted as anxious and frustrated on the last day of her life, as she spends the day with Dodi in Pris. In one scene she expresses her frustration as she tries to call her sons in Balmoral and is told she has ‘missed them’.

The clip begins with Diana walking from a car into the Ritz hotel with boyfriend Dodi Fayed by her side. She is swarmed by paparazzi.

She then steps into the hotel, where she calls Balmoral to speak to William and Harry.

“Balmoral Castle,” the operator says.

“Oh, it’s Diana calling the boys,” the princess replies.

“You just missed them,” the assistant adds. ‘The princes have been waiting for your call, but have gone outside again. Maybe try it again during dinner.’

Diana then looks extremely tormented, silently says “f**k” and scrunches up her face in anger. However, she is allowed to speak to the boys later.

Other recently released clips include Charles’ despair as he tells William and Harry that their mother has died, and Diana telling Dodi that she is a ‘persona non-grata’ at Balmoral.

The show will also depict the last time Prince William and Prince Harry spoke to their mother, but it will not be an actual reflection of the conversation.

In episode four, Diana is depicted as frustrated while in Paris with Dodi, and desperate to return to Britain to see her sons.

After missing one chance to speak to them on the phone, Diana finally manages to call Prince William and Prince Harry, where they ask her if she is going to marry billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed’s son.

However, according to Prince Harry and Prince William’s accounts of the last phone conversation he ever had with his mother, this version of events is not entirely accurate.

‘I am emphatically not going to marry Dodi. Honestly, I can’t wait to get home,” Diana says in the dramatized version of events.

William then asks his mother if everything is okay. She nods and says, “I’m doing well. It’s just a little crazy here. I don’t really understand how I ended up here. Mom just needs to make some changes in her life, that’s all. But that’s not your problem, that’s mine.’

In a tender moment she tells her sons that she loves them, and they respond that they love her too. She promises to return home to see them the next evening.

Later in the episode, Diana dies prematurely in a car accident.

While it is true that Prince William and Prince Harry shared a phone call with their mother on her last day alive, their memories of the phone call do not reflect the portrayal of the Netflix series.
