Tori Spelling protects children after Dean McDermott’s ‘Outburst’

Tori spelling puts her and estranged husband Dean McDermott‘s five children first after his bombshell claims about the demise of their relationship.

“The interview surprised Tori,” a source exclusively shared in the latest issue of We weekly from Spelling, 50. “It was a lot of personal information about their family. Tori has been very protective of the kids, given Dean’s anger and outbursts.”

McDermott, 57, broke his silence on his divorce from the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum in a candid Daily email interview, which was published earlier this month. During the sit-down, McDermott claimed that his alcohol-induced outbursts were the main reason for the split. (McDermott first announced his divorce from Spelling in June in a since-deleted Instagram post.)

“Alcohol made me feel good. I started to feel good enough until it got to a point where I didn’t – it ended up in isolation,” he said Daily email. “I ended up drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful [prescription medications] alone with a beautiful family in the other room.”

At Spelling’s urging, McDermott decided to seek treatment for substance abuse problems. He now lives in a sober men’s group home. The insider says Us that Spelling is “proud” of her estranged husband for getting the help he needed.

A second source adds that “nobody really knew” how bad McDermott’s battle with alcoholism had become. “Dean was so deep in his addiction,” says the insider.

McDermott told the Daily email that he mixed alcohol and Ambien pills the day he posted his divorce statement “in hopes that [he] wouldn’t wake up.”

During his treatment, McDermott has claimed he has not seen his five children with Spelling – sons Liam, 16, Finn, 10, and Beau, 6, and daughters Stella, 15, and Hattie, 11 – since his rehabilitation stay. (McDermott also shares son Jack, 25, with ex-wife Maria Jo Eustace.)

Spelling has not publicly discussed McDermott’s claims, with the first source noting that there is no chance of a possible reconciliation.

“Dean and Tori tried,” the insider adds. “At the end of the day, they just want each other to be happy.”

McDermott is currently dating Lily Calowhile Spelling has moved on Ryan Kramer.
