Storms bring more rain to New Orleans and over the south

A slow line of storms continues to deliver repeated rounds of heavy rainfall over the saturated soil of the southeast this week, so that the flood risks are renewed.
In New Orleans, where at the end of last month storms dropped a month of rain in a dayTired predictors at the local office of the National Weather Service warned that the “tolerance of the area for a different round of heavy rainfall is quite low”.
In the region on Wednesday, the rainfall between one and three centimeters per hour is expected, with some areas in South Louisiana and Mississippi that possibly surpass that.
The weather forecast center placed a broad zone from southeast Texas to southwestern Alabama under an increased risk of flash flash, and a slightly higher risk -warning was in force in South Louisiana and Mississippi. The highest warning of the day was present in Southeast Louisiana, including New Orleans. The worst of the rainfall was expected until Wednesday morning.
“It should decrease later, although there will still be a few showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and until tonight,” said Peter Mullinax, a meteorologist at the Weather Prediction Center. “But the toughest action is going on this morning.”
Leventering warnings were published in southeastern Louisiana, including Jefferson, New Orleans and St. Charles on Wednesday morning until the early afternoon.
The repeated rain showers are the result of a storm that falls along an almost stationary front, just north of the Gulf Coast. Warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico builds along this front, and a weather system approaching from the West, injects extra energy into the atmosphere. As a result, the storms drop large amounts of rain in a short time in the same areas.
The slowly moving storms have already influenced the region since the beginning of the weekDelivering significant rainfall and floods about parts of Texas and Louisiana. On Monday and Tuesday, areas in Louisiana received two to four centimeters of rain, with a few locations in the west that surpassed eight centimeters during the 48 -hour period.
In Texas, some areas in just the first week have surpassed all their average monthly rainfall before May. In Amarillo, 2.46 centimeters of rain was registered on Wednesday morning, which exceeds the average of May of 2.27 centimeters much.
“It has been pretty wet for a good part from the beginning,” said Mr. Mullinax. “Part of this has been welcomed, especially because we are getting closer to the summer, but to have that kind of levels, it will of course cause some flooding problems, and unfortunately that has been the case in the last few days, especially in North and East -Texas.”
In Brenham, Texas, between Austin and Houston, a search operation restored the body of Devah Woods on Tuesday, 10. She was last seen on Monday when storms moved through the area.
“Everyone’s reaction was overwhelming,” said Atwood Kenjura, the mayor of Brenham, expressing gratitude for rescue workers during a press conference. The Brenham fire brigade reported that the search efforts include drones, fast water rescue teams and dog units.
There was tough weather an extra threat in the southeast until Thursday, especially in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The Storm prediction center warned of hail and harmful wind as the primary threats, along with a low risk of tornadoes. Southeast -Texas, including cities such as Victoria and Missouri City, ran a slightly higher risk of heavy weather, especially Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The southeast will continue to experience in the coming days with heavy weather and high rainfall. The weather forecast center warned of flash risks of parts of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and, later this week, South Carolina. Southeast -Louisiana in southwestern Alabama, including New Orleans and Mobile, remains in a slightly higher risk.
“We have rainfall in the prediction for the next seven days,” said Mr. Mullinax. “It’s just a difficult piece of restless weather in the southeast for the following week.”
