Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out shows a 95p hack to remove tape stains
WITH five children, mum Stacey Solomon knows how difficult it can be to remove tape stains from her furniture and walls.
But luckily the savvy mother of five and her Sort Your Life Out team have come to the rescue with a simple cleaning trick to banish the stubborn sticky residue.
During episode two of the first series, Stacey and her cleaning crew went to Wembley, North London, to help parents Bijal and Darshan.
The parents of two children had a desperate need to part with their belongings and transform their home into a clutter-free space. Cleaning sensation Stacey was there to guide the process.
The mother-of-five said: “Bijal and Darshan both say they are struggling to let go of absolutely everything and it is starting to take over their lives.”
Bijal explained, “Every time we’ve had more stuff over the years, instead of downsizing, we’ve just brought more furniture to hide them in.”
As the team tackled the messy home, fellow cleaning expert Iwan Carrington shared a ‘useful and cheap’ hack for removing stubborn glue marks.
Showing the sticky spots along the window frame, the professional said, “This has gotten quite crunchy, so I think I want to break it back up by softening it with something.”
But instead of using regular cleaning products, Iwan took a popular condiment – a bottle of mayonnaise – and applied a “good dollop” to the stains.
The reason this slightly crazy trick works is because mayonnaise contains vinegar, which is made from acetic acid, a chemical compound that breaks down dirt.
“There’s a lot of vinegar in it and it’s the vinegar that will do it,” Iwan noted.
According to Today’s homeownerthe creamy seasoning is also an effective DIY treatment for tackling water stains on wooden furniture.
The site explained: “The fat from the egg yolks and oil penetrates the finish and replaces the moisture from the water stain.
“Meanwhile, the mild acidity of the vinegar helps break down the stain.”
For the cheap hack, it is advisable to let the mayo sit on the stain overnight, and you can simply wipe it away with a clean cloth the next day.
This isn’t the only budget-friendly cleaning hack the whiz shared with the show’s viewers: how to banish unpleasant odors and loosen food stuck in the microwave.
This easy trick involves using lemon water in the microwave, as the cleaning professional joked: “That’s going to create a nice microwave sauna and make it all wonderful inside. It smells so much better already.”
Using a cleaning cloth, Iwan then wiped the microwave plate thoroughly with the homemade concoction.
Running out of mayonnaise? Foodies – and cleaning enthusiasts – can buy this seasoning from supermarkets such as Lidl and Aldi for 95 cents, while lemon can be had for just 16 cents.
