WETHERSPOON has threatened a new pub with closure, with punters shocked by the move.

The boozer has told The Sun that one of its Poole pubs will be put on the market.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said: “I can confirm that The Quay in Poole will soon be on the market.

“The pub will continue to operate as normal until it is sold.”

Reacting to the news on Facebook, one resident said: “Wow, that surprises me. When I walk by it always seems busy.”

Another person said: “It doesn't matter what opinion you have about Wetherspoons… Book a moment for the staff.”

“That should have been the other one…” said a third gambler.

Wetherspoon also confirmed today that The Cricketers in Ipswich are now closed for renovations.

However, it will reopen to punters on Friday, February 2.

Last week the chain confirmed that the Rochester Castle in London will be sold, 30 years after it first became a Wetherspoons.

And dozens of other locations remain for sale.

Spoons also announced the sale of a popular pub in Edinburgh.

The Foot of the walk bar in Edinburgh Leith is also on the market because a sewer pipe burst under the building.

The chain – which has 827 pubs across Britain – warned last September that it would put dozens of pubs up for sale.

In December, 20 Wetherspoons were up for sale, while eight were under promotion, leaving fans concerned that their local branch could be lost forever.

The Percy Shaw in Halifax called in its last orders on Jan. 7 after Wetherspoon sold the location to a new owner.

Other pubs were for sale in Battersea, Bristol, Peebles and Shipley.

There are currently around 17 other Wetherspoons for sale, with the Rochester Crown becoming the 17th.

Here's the full list:

It comes at a time when a number of British pubs have closed their doors for good in a turbulent economic context.

Rising energy and labor costs are putting further pressure on companies.

But Wetherspoons continues to sell and excite its loyal fan base.

From March 6, punters will have the chance to sample a range of 30 different real ales, including five from overseas brewers.

The festival lasts 12 days from Wednesday March 6 to Sunday March 17.

Wetherspoons fans will have the opportunity to taste beers from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Taiwan and the US.
